Privacy Policy

The short version

Knurl is built around a simple principle: your training data is yours, and it stays with you. Knurl has no server and no account. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. This policy explains what that means in practice.

The short version

  • No account, no backend. Knurl does not run servers that store your data. There is nothing to log into.
  • Your data lives on your device and, if you enable it, in your own private iCloud account (via Apple’s CloudKit) — synced between your devices under your Apple ID. We cannot see it.
  • We collect no analytics and no tracking. Knurl does not embed third-party trackers, advertising SDKs, or analytics services.

What data Knurl stores (on your device / your iCloud)

Knurl stores the workout data you create so the app can function:

  • Your programs, exercises, workout sessions, sets, weights, reps, and personal records.
  • Your settings and preferences.

This data is kept locally on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, Apple syncs it to your private iCloud account across your devices. Knurl has no access to it.

Health data (HealthKit)

If you use Knurl on Apple Watch (or grant Health access), Knurl can:

  • Write your workouts, heart rate, and active energy to Apple Health.
  • Read the values needed to record a workout session.

Health data is handled by Apple’s HealthKit and stored in Apple Health on your device. Knurl does not transmit your Health data anywhere, and does not use it for any purpose other than recording your workout. We never sell or share Health data.

Calendar and Reminders

If you enable calendar features, Knurl can, with your permission:

  • Create calendar events and reminders for your planned or completed workouts.
  • Read/update the events it created (to keep them in sync and avoid duplicates).

This access stays on your device through Apple’s EventKit. Knurl only touches events and reminders related to your workouts and never transmits your calendar data.

Location (“Start at the gym”)

If you enable the optional “Start at the gym” feature, Knurl uses Always location access to notice when you arrive at a gym location you have saved, so it can offer to start your workout.

  • Your location is used only for this on-device region check.
  • Your saved gym locations and your position stay on your device. Knurl has no server and never transmits your location.
  • You can disable this feature or delete saved locations at any time in Settings.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not collect analytics or usage tracking.
  • We do not use advertising or third-party ad networks.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone.
  • We do not have access to your workout, health, calendar, or location data.

Data deletion

Because your data lives on your device and your iCloud, you are in control:

  • Delete individual items in the app, or delete the app to remove its on-device data.
  • Manage iCloud data through your device’s iCloud settings.
  • Health, Calendar, and Reminders data are managed through Apple’s own apps and permission settings.

Children

Knurl is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them (it does not collect data at all).

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
